“No matter how old we are,
we still need our dads, and wonder
how we’ll get by without them.”

Remembering our father... Francis "Gary" Holmberg
|
Our beloved father passed away on Sunday morning March 29th , 2022 @ 9:30 at Carroll County Hospital. He was 77 years young and a well-respected retired Washington, DC firefighter. He had vascular dementia and died from severe pneumonia complicated by the COVID-19 virus. He was to be a temporary resident at the Pleasant View nursing home in Mt. Airy, MD for rehab then released and was only in the facility for Update on Memorial Service It has been determined at this time to hold off on a memorial service for Dad. We feel having a gathering with the virus still going strong in many areas could potentially be a threat to too many people. It would be devastating to us if any one of you were to fall ill. Hopefully next year the virus will be under control and it will be a safer time to pay our respects and share stories. Please be safe and don't forget to post stories on the "memories" section! |
Gary LOVED being a firefighter and said many times, he would go back and do it all over again! He's made many lasting friendships through being a firefighter and many of them he considered brothers!
He retired in 1988 as a Captain from Engine 15 of the Washington DC Fire Department. |
We remember our father as a fun, loving, caring, creative, skillful, silly, easy going guy. He was a wonderful father and caring grand father! He will be missed greatly!! We know he is now at peace without dementia and in the arms of his mother, two sisters, his niece, and other family members who we've lost over the past years. You will be missed Dad...greatly!!!
